As a postpartum doula, I see that what mothers long for most is practical help and heartfelt care. Expectant mothers don’t need more diaper cakes — they need attention, laughter, a sense of being held, and thoughtful preparation for the postpartum period. From this understanding, two special baby shower formats were born, each centred on supporting the mother-to-be.

These are baby celebrations that do not centre on gifts, but on the mother herself. On her wellbeing. Her sense of safety. Her readiness to step into the postpartum period knowing she will not be alone.

If you’d like to read more about why this approach is so important for mothers, I’ve written about it in my blog.

Mother’s blessing — a gentle, nurturing baby celebration to honour the transition into motherhood

Mother’s Blessing is a heartfelt gathering where the mother is truly held and cared for.

We create a space where women can support one another, share, and simply be.

The focus is on:

  • shared care rituals for the mother
  • connection between the mother and her support circle
  • rituals that create a sense of safety
  • supporting and replenishing the mother’s energy levels
  • releasing fears
  • gathering knowledge in a light, uplifting way

It’s a celebration that stays in the heart, not on a shelf.

What can happen when a mother does not feel held?

When a woman enters motherhood without a sense of safety and support, she may begin to feel alone and overwhelmed.

Often, fears and doubts begin to surface: *“Am I capable? Can I do this?”

💗 But when a mother is gently held…

……she has space to be both tender and strong at the same time. Space to gently release the fears that no longer serve her.
Space to experience how loved ones hold and support her. Space to learn.
That is why we gather. That is why we bless the mother.

Nesting Party — a practical baby celebration to prepare for life with your baby before birth.

Nesting Party is a baby celebration designed to help the mother feel truly prepared.

It is a warm, hands-on gathering where we do things together that create real support for the postpartum period:

  • We create a physical and emotional space of safety before the baby arrives.
  • Together, we prepare for the postpartum period: we fill the freezer with nourishing foods that support recovery, organise the baby’s space, and create gentle herbal blends to care for the mother. If needed, we wash windows and floors, and sort and fold baby clothes by size and colour — with a light heart and a smile 😉
  • We put simple, supportive systems in place — so the mother doesn’t have to build everything from scratch.
  • We listen, share, and are fully present — without teaching, fixing, or applying pressure.
  • We learn about the postpartum period through playful activities — because once the baby arrives, there’s no time for endless Googling.

It’s a gift that continues to support long after the celebration ends.

What can happen when the nest is not ready?

When practical preparations are left undone and there is hope that everything will somehow fall into place on its own,
exhaustion and burnout may arrive long before clarity and a sense of calm do.

💗 But when the nest is ready…

…she has space to breathe. Space to recover. Space to simply be a mother.
That is why we gather. That is why we weave the nest together.

Why centre the mother at a baby celebration?

Because the mother is the one who gives birth.
Her body. Her mind. Her heart.
When a mother feels held, supported, and prepared, the entire postpartum period becomes gentler and more secure.

This is not just a celebration.
It is care.

Who is this baby celebration for — and when is it most supportive?

The baby celebration is created for an expectant mother and her support circle (up to 15 women) — friends, sisters, mothers, and women who truly wish to offer meaningful support.
The ideal time is during the third trimester:

– Mother Blessing — weeks 30–38
– Nesting Party — weeks 33–35
